Every Car Has A Name.

An unexpected surprise.

There was an old-timer's tractor meet in Rechnitz over the weekend and these guys had a pit stop in Eisenberg.
You can see the pride taken over this old tractor. A tractor that's fed a lot of people, a tractor that's been around for decades and a tractor that looks a bit Ferrarish...
For a long time our car's name was 'Subi ' and now it's ' Peugi ' but maybe it should have been Bob & Biggi all along.
What a great adventure it must be to ride around the country on one of these, complete with friends, comfortable seats and a cooler box?
This would be a favourite for me to ride along on. Experiences shared firsthand, automatic air-conditioning and an elevated view of our beautiful area...

A Leisurely Tractor Ride Through Eisenberg's Vineyards.

What a great way to sight see and enjoy life.

By pure chance did I happen to be there when this group of tractor enthusiasts chortled down the road. A lovely sound and an even better sight. What a fabulous way to travel and really enjoy the journey not only the destination...
There were all shapes and colours of tractors but I missed quite a few of them. Nevertheless, all the people on the tractors were happy, smiling and relaxed.
Each and every tractor was gleaming brilliantly. The vintage tractor owners are enthusiasts to the core and I think in their own way they are showing us that life should be slowed down and noticed...
The slow food movement's cousin?

As you can see, it was a beautiful and hot day. Perfect to meander about our scenic vineyards and I am sure they stopped at one of the local Buschenschanks to refuel...tractor and themselves!
This might just be my kind of tractor...well, if you look closely you can see a barrel of wine on the back of it!
On second thought, I think this one might be more suited for me. A shady spot indeed.
Maybe we should all sign up for a tractor ride, as it might show us that the slow way can be good too...

Eisenberg, Have Another Look! Austria & Burgenland At Its Best.

Just some aspects I find divine.

On Saturday the Kurier Newspaper chose our Eisenberg as one of the top 30 most beautiful places in Austria. As you can imagine, I am as proud as can be and wrote about it yesterday. Here are some photos of my Eisenberg!

Just so you know the authenticity...this photo shows the Eisenberg Weinberg with Eisenberg on the left and Hungary on the right.
At times winter can be like a fairy tale. Walking around Eisenberg, we discover one great aspect after the other. Running, walking or riding horses would be fun there.
Vines, vines and more vines...the essence of our area is of course the delightful Nectar of the Gods.
Only fitting that we now and again taste wine up in the clouds...a wine walk organized by our vintner's club. ...quite livable, isn't it?
You are wondering why I put a photo of a donkey here...but for me, that is the beauty of Eisenberg and our area of Südburgenland. Coming back from my walk, I at first heard the braying of a donkey and when I took a closer look, here he was, just behind a barn in our street. It couldn't happen in a big city, could it?
We are surrounded by forests as far as the eye can see and walking in it is romantic...of the beaten path, you better bring along some breadcrumbs though.
I happened upon this tractor club one Sunday morning at the top of the Eisenberg ( outside the Grenzlandkeller ). Isn't it marvelous to do a bike run, but slower? On top of the tractor, one has the ability to really imbibe and enjoy the slower passing scenery. Sometime soon, I'd like to be able to ride on a tractor!
Eisenberg is peeping out behind this street sign. Apart from being a wine lover's paradise, cyclists are also welcome and can pedal as much as they want and often only a handful of cars might pass them...
October amid the Eisenberg vineyards has so many beautiful aspects. The harvesting of grapes and the stunning variety of autumn hue that an October brings.

The cottage in the foreground is one many different holiday cottages / Kellerstöckl ) available to rent for a weekend or weeks on end...

Vintage Tractor Breakfast Run In The Suedburgenland Vineyards.

Oh, what a cool hobby to have.

Forget about motorbikes or bicycles. Horses maybe, but what I saw yesterday morning on my walk through the vineyards convinced me that this must be one of the coolest hobbies to have. Vintage tractors and their owners chortling slowly through the countryside with an infectious joie de vivre!

We are all so busy rushing around trying to see and know everything, that we in fact do miss the little things. How can we see a beautiful daisy growing on the verge when we hurtle passed it at 100 kmh an hour. Personally I would much rather see the detail than a big swoosh of green flashing by. This group of enthusiasts yesterday morning couldn't have been happier. They smiled and I could see how much fun they were having.

All I could hear behind me was the loud chug chugging of a tractor. By now I can recognize them but not the driver. Our locals do know who is driving even without seeing them ( only the local farmers, of course). Some must have more pep and elan than others...When I turned, I was awarded this divine view. A convoy of vintage tractor enthusiasts.
At first I thought is was the Austrian flag but on closer inspection, it turned out to be a Stiegl Beer lover. But what a big smile he gave me. They all were so happy in their chariots.
A passing shot. The sound they made was amazing to hear. Maybe not so much for the late risers. It was about 8.30 am and some revelers were still asleep. Well, not anymore!
When I turned to take a photo of this next one, I nearly dropped the camera. My goodness, for a minute I thought it was " John Maclain " in Die Hard 6...Danger in the Vineyards.
All the neighbours ( not that many up there ) were outside and watching. It was so nice to see and the convoy had an air of enjoyment about it.
The red vintage diesel beauty with John in the background astride his fast green bullet....There is a similarity, isn't there?
This tractor reminds me of an African safari. That divine basket hanging on the bumper evokes memories of picnics, sand and sunshine.
I had walked quite a bit further when I saw this straggler catching up. He could be heard for miles...A great Sunday morning walk, and great inspiration for Bob & I.
Who will be in the driver's seat, I wonder?
