Birds, Sunflower Seeds And Oodles Of Feline Entertainment.

Feeding the flock.

Like all good ideas, Bob thought of it first or he was more alert in the store. Feeding birds is something one needs to be reminded about and most shops have displays of bird feed next to the entrance. Birds appear so self sufficient as they flit this way and that around trees, shrubs or bushes which somehow belies the fact that they cannot find enough food to last the winter.

With all our autonomous farming and our extreme need for picture perfect gardens, birds are left in the lurch trying their hardest to get by with the meager offerings left over for them. Lushious rain worms are relics from those times when poisonous fertilizers hadn't been thought of. What's left to eat for our early morning crooners?

Bob bought a big bag of sunflower seeds and has been throwing out a couple of handfuls on the grass outside our lounge window every morning. It is amazing how quickly the tweets got out that there is free grub on offer. A couple of tweeters turned into an armada of little birds larking about whilst happily diving for sunflower seeds.

What a stroke of luck for us that cats love watching birds at play. Once our princess has shaken off the remnants of slumber and has eaten her fill of breakfast, she likes nothing better than to hover on the windowsill, avidly spectating the real time entertainment outside the window. Birds landing, taking off or skydiving to the ground are keeping her happy for hours on end. Often she adds her two cents worth but as they are on the other side of the glass, they can't hear her or respond.

Feeding birds is so necessary and it doesn't cost us much apart from remembering to put the food out. Today I have bought bird feed that has many different kernels in it and perhaps it will attract a more diverse lot of tweeters...
