Choosing The Freshest Ice Cream.

The conundrum of a supermarket freezer !

Summer, hot weather and ice cream go hand in hand. Scooping out a delicious ice cream from the container only works when it is " creamy " ( fresh ) and not " crystalized " ( re-frozen ) a few times.

Let's be honest, who hasn't stood in front of the freezer door in the supermarket and pondered the positions of the cartons or tubs of ice cream ! I have, many a time.

You see, usually the top container has been exposed to an open freezer door more times than necessary. Oh well, no problem. Easy, you just take the one underneath. But what if the person before you had thought of that too ? Oh yes, what you think is the top container is actually the bottom one.

Okay, so now you face a conundrum. Which container is freshest and not crystalized cream ? To press, handle and touch every container is frowned upon. But how can you tell ? Just this issue means that I stand in front of the freezer for more time than is necessary. As it is, being a Gemini star sign, I take longer then most to decide on the flavour !

One solution would be to buy two containers. Half the risk so to say. Of course if they are both perfect, you double your risk of a few extra pounds on the hips !

Supermarkets are sneaky in that they often have specials on. A special if you buy a certain brand and a certain amount. F.Y.I., we are already slaves to ice cream. No need to entice us further...

You will most likely laugh and wonder about my sanity, when I tell you the next hurdle...the quick dash to the check out. Let's face it, after spending so long finding the perfect ( at least you hope so ) container of ice cream, the last thing you want to do is wait in a long queue at the check out !

Oh, once or twice Bob and I have worked as a team. He queues up at the till, while I wait at the freezer ( guarding my chosen container with zest, zeal & the odd snarl ) for his booming command of: " Run, we are next "... Ah the joys of shopping with your spouse.
