A Healthy Dose Of 6th Sense !

We tend to forget how powerful and intuitive our minds are.

A while ago, Bob needed to go to a Specialist Doctor for a check-up. Scary at the best of times but more so when you are not so good with the local language. At any doctor's office, we all like to be 100% eloquent and preferably in the same language. Clearly, this is not the place to be misunderstood ! Who hasn't read about mishaps at the surgery...

In the morning, he had already asked me to go in with him. A thought popped into my head and I said to Bob: " Look, I just know that you will see a Doctor that has done part of his internship in Pietermaritzburg and he will speak fluent English. ( Every year a lot of Doctors from Europe, go to do part of their practical studies in Pietermartizburg's hospitals. ) "

I know this next bit sounds a bit " iffy ", but this really happened !

While we stood at the reception desk, I started to explain to the receptionist that Bob was English speaking and would it be alright if I go in with him. As chance would have it, a Doctor was getting some files. When he heard me, he looked up and focused on Bob. Doctors really all have those piercing lazer-like stares, don't they ?

Of course Bob ( in his foresight ) was wearing his lucky Springbok rugby jersey. Well, the Doctor asked only one relevant question: " Where did you get that jersey ?" and in fluent English....

It turned out, that this Doctor had done his specialized training in Durban and had also worked a year in Edendale Hospital ( situated in Pietermaritzburg ). Oh yes, not only did he speak English, but he had also lived in our old home town ! Isn't it amazing ?

You know, the rest of the visit to the Doctor went like a dream. Bob felt comfortable and chatted about the Springboks and I think the Doctor was excited to speak English again to a patient.

It just goes to show, that we shouldn't ignore our 6th sense / feeling in the stomach / intuition . How often has your 6th sense told you of something, before it's happened ? And how often have you not listened, when life would have been so much easier if you had ? Please, I would love to hear your stories...
