A Sign Of The Times.

A treasure trove moves into Grosspetersdorf.

Die Schatzgrube has opened in Grosspeterdsdorf and with plenty of fanfare. Great, finally a second-hand shop closer to us. A shop that hopefully lives up to its inherent principles.

Second-hand shops have so many important values.

  • Clothes, furniture, books and toys can be given away instead of thrown away, once we are tired of them.
  • For those who have to watch their pennies, a welcome shop to shop in.
  • A place for environmentally conscious and aware people to shop.
  • A place that helps save our earth one purchase at a time.

Saturday I finally got to shop there. A well laid out shop far removed from the dusty piles and racks normally associated with second-hand shops. The staff are plenty, friendly and helpful be it with the wares on offer or the principle behind recycling. Most refreshing to meet others who've adopted a few of the principles to halt climate change.

Some of the furniture was actually quite nice and affordable. A TV sofa chair for 15 euros or a black leather imitation lounge suit ( sleeper couch included ) set for 150 euros. Wouldn't that be brilliant and perfect for those starting out in their first home? Alas, most of the youngsters are steeped in the mindset of having only the best, the newest and right now too.

Let's hope that our area embraces this new venture, be it by donating good stuff or by purchasing older things that are too young to be thrown onto the dump...
