The Instincts Of A Cat.

Our deceptively cuddly couch potato of a cat shows her fangs.

Late yesterday afternoon I was most surprised to see Mausi leap off the couch and hotfoot it to the open air vent ( chimney rules ) in our wall, proceeding to leap up and get entangled with the stuff in front of it. I got a huge fright and thought our gal was trying to do a runner, perhaps unhappy with our food offerings, and almost copied her in speed off the couch. Can't have her run away!

Before I got to her, she headed back towards me at great speed with a live little passenger in her mouth. Yes, she who had only just been in slumber land had caught a wily intruder in the act, so to speak. Before you ask, I shrieked and stepped back in horror and hopped onto our couch for safety. She, whilst growling like a mountain lion, proudly carried her live bounty into our bedroom. Yikes,Mausi, no!

Nothing for it, I needed to put a stop to it and remove the intruder. Easier said than done when our silly cat drops the mouse on the bedroom floor, watches it run away and then puts on a theatrical performance trying to catch it again. If only you could have heard the noise of this cat & mouse game. Knowing I couldn't be part of it ( can't kneel down or sprint fast enough ) I wisely chose to wait for the man of the house to come home and sort it out...

At least it kept Mausi busy most of the evening. Bob thought it was cute, until it was time for bed. Somehow we blended out the idea of a rodent on the loose...until Bob woke up in the middle of the night upon hearing squeaky noises close to him. As he opened his eyes, he saw the mouse sitting on the armrest of the chair next to his side of the bed, watching him. Well done Bob for not panicking.

Eventually he caught it ( really a man job, isn't it? ) and with great care took it outside ( side-stepping an eager house cat ) to let it run into nature...When he went back outside a moment later to have a cigarette to calm his nerves, he almost fell over one of our outside feral cats, who sort of grinned at him in gratitude! Poor little mouse...from the frying pan into the fire.
