What a brilliant achievement.
We have been watching from the fringes and the other side of Japan and South Africa yet, we couldn't have been more excited, supportive and proud of how this tournament has turned out.
The game still holds moments of mystery for me but the net result is what counts and today, the champions proved to be just so. A pleasure to watch and honestly, a pleasure to watch accompanied by German commentators. They called a spade a spade but gave liberal praise wherever and whenever it was due. Nice. Even Bob has taken to this particular channel and quite likes listening to his rugby in German.
The South African Captain's acceptance speech was amazing and awe inspiring. It wouldn't surprise me if he were to enter politics after his playing career is over. For today at least, his words of wisdom have pulled a nation closer together.
Rugby is a game of strength and at times brute force but somehow, it also sparkles with manners and a gentlemen's code of conduct and behaviour. A place where a handshake still counts for something and where friendships are forged. Refreshing and important in these times.
It will be another four years before the next World Championship but I am hoping that we will get to see many more matches in between, as I think that Europe has caught the Rugby fever...
Well done South Africa for winning yet again!
