Lego For Grown-ups!

How the other half lived, way back when...

Our Monday morning started off with aplomb or rather with a dash of sweat and elbow grease. More of Mum's and Bob's as I fitted into the role of the in betweener. We had gone around to my parents to help stack wood for Winter. Never mind that it was one of the hottest days in Summer. Mid to Upper 30's. But when that tractor brings the delivery, weather doesn't matter.

Stacking cut pieces of firewood for Winter, apart from being jolly hard work, is a reflective kind of chore. It makes you realize how much you firstly rely on nature to survive and that Winter is not to be sneezed at. Stacking wood is almost an art form, when you consider that the cut pieces are all shaped differently yet they need to form a stable wall when stacked. Yes, neatness is a prerequisite.

While we were stacking this wood ( it was dumped in the front yard, and had to be 'wheelbarrowed' to the shed at the back 39 times...Bob likes figures! ) it made me wonder how life was lived hundred or more years ago. How did they manage, even though I know they of course did. Possibly some gal back then was wondering how people managed a further century back!

Anyway, about four hours later, Bob and I were driving home. He was drenched in sweat and because I didn't want him to drive topless ( gosh, men get undressed at the drop of a hat ) we'd borrowed an old towel for the seat. I don't know about you, but when I see a topless driver it straight away makes me wonder if it is some deranged man who is also bottom-less...

As we were driving, Bob talked about how life was supposedly lived in the Prairie, in America hundreds of years ago. One bit of interesting facts he told me, stuck deep. He mentioned that back then the world's oceans were teeming with fish life. They were full of fish and there was more than enough for everyone. Jeez, what have we done to our oceans, nature and way of life?

Our oceans are emptying fast of fish and filling with plastic, rubbish, toxins and the wrong sort of pH. Why are we collectively so stupid, selfish and obtuse? On the one hand we moan about the state of our ocean etc, but on the other hand we keep on consuming things with plastic in them, on or with it. Surely by now everyone knows that plastic doesn't decompose?

I don't know what is worse:

That we ( me too ) still buy stuff made of / with / packed in plastic without a care in the world, or that the world is still allowed to make, produce & sell plastic...
