A Couple Of Lumberjacks.

Organizing firewood.

Yes, it has been so cold that our kitchen stove ( a sort of aga stove ) needed to be put into action and that needed us to organize bite-sized firewood. Our stove is a left over from the previous owner and as nice as it is, it does only have a small section for where the wood has to go resulting in us having to feed it every 20 minutes.

I almost forgot that this stove helped us to dry the walls and the freshly laid cement floors before we moved in. Back then we didn't have proper electricity and used the warmth of this small kitchen stove to sort out the walls and floor. Good memories!

A couple of months ago Bob was given a whole lot of old discarded vines and old dry logs which we are excited and thankful for but they are a couple of sizes too long. Much too long which had the two of us donning our roles as lumberjacks. Bob with chainsaw and me with a pair of hands and very watchful eyes. We braved the icy cold and sawed wood for an hour.

The only time I don't say a word is when Bob works the chainsaw. He does it perfectly but still, I don't want to distract him...many fables of, oops, discarded spouses about!

Rural life is rather nice. Sorting out firewood is a tradition that has pride of place in most households albeit there it gets done in the summer. As per usual Bob and I are fashionably late to the party but at least we have enough wood for this winter and perhaps the next...

Oh, and of course Mausi loves climbing and scratching among the basket of wooden logs.

Those were the days...that was our first winter here and rather a shocker after the mild South African ones... This is our kitchen in its raw state awaiting to have the walls dried out.
