Time Keeping The Emigrant's Way.

Move over Watches & Clocks, a new system is in town...

What, you still measure time with a mere watch? Where have you been, there is a much nicer and enjoyable way to measure the passing of time.

Being an emigrant, means a lot of things. It implies you have:

  • Courage
  • A sense of adventure
  • Enough energy to create a new life for yourself.
  • A few folks back home, who think you've bitten of more than you can chew and secretly wonder when you'll move back there.
But, as an immigrant, there are so many new adventures awaiting:
  • Meeting new people and becoming friends.
  • Finding a Supermarket, Doctor, Dentist, Butcher & Candlestick Maker to use. All very mundane, but highly necessary.
  • Discovering an inner hitherto hidden strength. Moving somewhere new, a Continent away from what you were used to, is an open invitation to the universe, to send you little tests of resolve...' let's see how they handle this lot!'.
My Dad always calls us " the pioneers ", like in the old westerns. I love this image and it often helps me through some ' canyons '.

Moving anywhere new is jolly hard and even when there are times of " Oh, this is so hard ", you know that complaining to anyone won't do the trick, as you might get the standard reply of: " You chose to do this. We told you it would be difficult / warned you not to do it. "

Coming back to the art of timekeeping. Starting a new life, means you have Christmases, Birthdays and Holidays for the first time somewhere else. Before you know it, you realize that another Birthday or celebration has come around. Oh yes, there you go. Another year has passed.

Yesterday our local " Winter exercise class " started again. Even in a very small place you get the doers and the not doers! The usual suspects are back at gym class. A very nice reunion in a way. Oh, we meet each other at the local functions, shop or driving in the street ( that's were we practice The Nod ), but a common exercise class bonds you a bit further.

Driving home after our class last night, I realized that this is my third Winter exercise class. Yes, my new timekeeping method makes this is our third year in our new home. Time flies when you are having fun...
