Smoked out but happy.
The frost had announced itself with a bout of cold weather the likes of which Burgenland hasn't seen for yonks. Our wine farmers made a plan and organized hay bales for all the vineyards. Early this morning they were lit to counteract the minus degrees. Luckily the wind blew in the right direction. Turning to take this photo while the sun was rising. Smoke filled the air but a happy smoke. A smoke that saved livelihoods. The magnetism of fire... Further down in the Deutsch Schützen vineyards a fire officer was guarding the stacks of fire. To show you the buds who galvanized a whole village to pull together and save it. That is one of the beauties of village life...when times are tough, everyone pulls together. All's well that ends well. The fire department was on standby to make sure the fires didn't pose any danger. So glad the threat of black frost has passed.Biggi
