And Then The Rain Came.

A much needed refreshment.

Yesterday and part of today a whole lot of rain came our way. About time too as everything looked dull, dry and sandy. Watering plants wasn't really helping much as one can see by the way they brighten up once real rain comes their way. Much better than the sporadic offerings from us.

Bob and I are doubly pleased when it rains as our outside barrels under the gutters fill up to the brim. That will give us about half a week's worth of water for our outside residents. When the barrels are empty we resort to pumping water out of our well. Just a bit of a schlep connecting all the pipes and wires.

This morning's rain tried to be persistent but I noticed a break at about seven and decided to go for a walk. What are raincoats invented for if not to use them in rainy conditions? Walking in the rain is actually a pleasure. Yes, one gets wet but we are not made of sugar. As I left the driveway I noticed one other walker and her sidekick.

Not her husband nor her dog but her donkey. Yes, weekends are her days to walk this delightful donkey ( whom she hand reared and bottle fed ) around the neighbourhood and the three of us meandered together for a few hundred meters. Nothing like walking with a donkey. This is what dots the i in country living. Somehow I must try and time my weekend walks so that I can get a chance to stroke the donkey and shoot the breeze. With its owner of course!

As I look out the window a new troupe of rain clouds are trying to decide where to settle in for the night. Let's hope that we are the lucky ones because even though most of the crops around us seem to have sprouted another inch over night, the season is far from over and they will have to spar with a few more heat waves...
