It used to be doctors and apples...
Perhaps it boils down to us frying like mad at the moment with the only respite coming predawn, late night and inside but regardless, we are feeling the worsening weather patterns first hand. So much for the naysayers who insist on the heat spells of late being a normal occurrence happening every now and again. Now and again has morphed into each consecutive year!
Well, as there are so many of us trying to cling to the coat tails of a disappearing Mother Earth and expecting her to do to our bidding whenever and whatever we want, it wouldn't be a bad idea to do at least one good earth deed per day. It is laughable how easy these deeds can be and yet, we need to first look over the edge of abyss in order to get up and get going.
Look, most of us know exactly what we should do each day but often couldn't be bothered. Much easier to put the onus on our politicians knowing full and well that it will take forever and a day before environmental policy gets set in stone. Are we pretending to emulate ostriches because it suits us to stay with our own status quo?
Trying to outwit the plastics industry is difficult as just about everything one buys is imprisoned in numerous layers of plastic even the supposedly fresh organic produce. It seems as if the plastic industry makes a bigger profit than the products they cover. Going totally plastic free is almost impossible because all supermarkets and shops insist on it but at least we can look for the packaging free option.
Eating meat has its own climate woes. Huge amounts of water are wasted, groundwater infected with chemicals and fecal matter and plenty of deforestation in order to plant more crops to feed the cattle. Eat less or no meat.
Walking or taking the bicycle, bus or train helps already. Wearing your clothes for more than the season they are fashionable and buying quality over quantity thus making them last. Holidays taken at home and not with the aide of an airplane ride. Oh, there are so many ways to make a difference and when we whittle it down to one deed per day it is doable and hopefully might entice us to do a few more...
